This beautiful historic lighthouse located in New York’s Golden Hill State Park has stood since 1875.  Today, Thirty Mile Point lighthouse is facing danger from the flooding of Lake Ontario.  The shoreline, in recent weeks, has receded from the action of higher than normal lake levels and wave action.  The cause has become a heated debate.  The hottest topic for the cause of increased lake levels focus on Plan 2014 by many in New York state.  Even the governor has join this crusade.  Others point to climate change.  Still others identify high snowfall followed by normal spring thaw as the culprit.  And the final cause could well be a combination of all of these.  While the long-term solution to controlling future flooding in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River could take years to plan and implement, a short-term fix is essential to saving this historic building.
