To those who have explored western New York, this is a well-known scene that many others have scene in magazines. However, you cannot appreciate the total experience until you stand on Goat Island or Prospect Point and actually feel the thunder of the mighty falls. I have read that 6.5 million gallons of water go over these two falls every minute. I understand there are plans to temporarily dam the American Falls to repair the bridges to Goat Island. I remember seeing the last time this was done in the late 1960s. This will be the third time that I know of where some part of the Falls stopped flowing. If you are able to visit during this time, you will carry that experience with you for the rest of your life.
