At Rest

In the 19th century, small communities and scattered farms sprang up throughout the United States.  Most of these farms were self-sufficient parts of hamlets or villages.  The barns that were raised provided both storage for equipment and harvested hay, and shelter for livestock.  After long days of working in the fields under harnesses such as this, the horses finished the day at rest.  This barn was built in the late 19th century.
