Radial Air

November 25, 2015  •  1 Comment

During the Second World War, many of the American fighter planes were driven by radial engines. The cylinders encircled the propeller drive shift and were air cooled.  While visiting the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, I saw several of these engine up close.  While they are a sturdy design, the fins offer unique design.  As always, I enjoyed exploring our naval air history in Pensacola.
