In early afternoon, we were overlooking Little River Canyon enjoying the beauty and wildlife of the park. Several large birds, turkey vultures, appeared just out from the cliffs. This one dipped below the canyon rim and flew by my position. The light and color in the background presented a pleasant canvas for the magnificent bird. I watched as the birds landed on the cliff-face where, I assume, their nests are located. The Little River Canyon is carved down the middle of Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama. The 14,000 acre national preserve is one of the deepest canyons east of the Mississippi River. Scenery and wildlife watching are part of the activities at the Little River Canyon National Preserve.
