On March 1, 2014 we discovered a site we had heard about for several years. Turkey Creek had been enjoyed for generations by the people in Pinson, AL. I remember an article in the Birmingham News describing how the county government had plans for this location. They planned to use this land for a county prison. Thankfully, three endangered darters were found in this creek and these falls were saved for generations to come. The Turkey Creek Nature Preserve was created August 31, 2011. The 466 acre park is free to use and enjoy. I spoke with a woman whose family had been swimming here for a hundred years. She brought her grandson and his mom out to share it with yet another generation of her family. Sharing such a beautiful location is just one part of family traditions.
